Broken Lance

Broken Lance

October 5th, 1877: Chief Joseph, Nes Perce, rode into General Miles’ camp in northern Montana to surrender. He turned to his people and war chiefs with these immortal words:

"Hear me my people! I am tired, my heart is sick and sad. From where the sun now stands, I will fight no more forever."

Chief Joseph broke his lance and gave it to General Miles.

Steel point, rawhide, brass comes, glass beads, 45/70 shell casing, horse hair and feathers. The base is a mesquite root from the New Mexico desert. It is estimated to be around 200 years old.
